The author, NAKANO (1903-85), the future critic of the highest repute, had studied English literature at Tōkyō University under a friend of T.E., Edmund Blunden (1896-1974), and was an associate professor of English literature at Tōkyō University then. The book was published in famous 'Iwanami Shinsho' [pocket book] series, attained a sale [NAKANO said] of about thirty or forty thousand copies, riding an Islamic boom from the late 1930's to 1945 in Japan.

A revised and updated version. One of the best responses to the Lean film LAWRENCE OF ARABIA, released on February 1963 in Japan. It obviously was the most compact and accessible book about T. E., and was in print until 1996. The 49th impression was published on September 2013.

The author (1904-63) was one of the pioneers of Arabic studies in Japan, and left many books on the Arab and Islamic affairs. He wrote this book after he finished a translation of REVOLT with a colleague.

A biography by a woman Shōjo Manga artist, affected deeply by the 1969 Knightley and Simpson book. Based on the serial illustrated story (a) on a monthly magazine WINGS. There are two other editions.

Based on the serial articles titled "Arabia no Rorensu Saikō [Lawrence of Arabia Reanalysed]" on a weekly magazine SHŪKAN KIN'YŌBI from 2 September 1994 to 28 July 1995 (PHOTO: the 2 September 1994 issue).
Deals with the Middle East in Japanese views, describing some Japanese who were concerned with T. E., or visited Arabia in the age of T. E.. The author (1923-2011) was a translator of Suleiman Mousa's LAWRENCE AND THE ARABS: AN ARAB VIEW, and a well-known writer on the Arab world.

As a long time Middle East journalist, and a translator of Suleiman Mousa's LAWRENCE AND THE ARABS: AN ARAB VIEW, Professor MUTAGUCHI looks at a connection between T.E.'s life and the Arab-Israeli conflict. Partly based on the serial articles titled "Arabia no Rorensu Saikō [Lawrence of Arabia Reanalysed]" on a weekly magazine SHŪKAN KIN'YŌBI from 2 September 1994 to 28 July 1995 (see above).
A short article about Lawrencians today, written by YAGITANI Ryōko (i.e. the webmaster of this site) is also included on pp.237-42.
This is the author's second book on T.E. and number 1499 in the Chūkō Shinsho [pocket book] series. MUTAGUCHI died on 22 January 2011, aged 87.

The 43rd of a historic lives series edited in cooperation with a Jūzōsha, Tōkyō. This full color biography is illustrated with many photographs, including 'Empire Day' and a 1999 issue of the T. E. Lawrence Society Newsletter. The book also examines the David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia, guerrilla warfare, British Intelligence service and latter-day conflicts in the Middle East. No Bibliography.

The author, TASUMI Tsuneo (b.1931) was translated mamy books on travelers of the Middle East, including Lady Anne Blunt, Gertrude Bell, Friedrich Rosen and T. E. Lawrence. Having been translating the 1922 SP, he found how TEL dramatized SP by his imagination. The SP was a fiction, at least partially, he said. This is the first and only substantial study of Seven Pillars written in Japanese.

Originally abridged by the translators KASHIWAGURA Shunzō (1898-1996) and KOBAYASHI Hajime, from the SEVEN PILLARS. KASHIWAGURA had been one of the pupils of Edmund Blunden at Tōkyō University, and was a college professor then. Used paper of very poor quality, because of shortage during hostilities.
